My JW Daughter sends a Letter to us Explaining her Shunning of Me
by flipper inmy wife and i sent my 22 yr.old pioneer witness daughter and her husband a anniversary card and $ 40.00 and flowers the end of april.
my daughter wrote mrs. flipper and me each our own individual letters thanking us initially for the gifts - and then went into detail as to why she has not spoken to me for over a year and shunned me.. keep in mind as i paraphrase some of the highlights to these letters that the only negative thing i have said about the organization to my daughter in 3 years was to show her the ap news release about the child abuse settlements by the wt society .
i'll quote parts of the letter to mrs. flipper first :.

Hi Flipper,
What a sad situation. And yet there is some good in it.
As others have already said, she is having some form of communication with you and I'm sure you're grateful for that! :)
As far I can see there are 2 routes you can take.
1.) Say something like "You're probably never going to leave and I'm probably never going to go back, so let's just get our relationship to the best it can be within those parameters." Or words to that affect. I spoke to a counsellor about saying something like that to my still-in family. He seemed to think it was a good idea. I did say those words to a sibling and it worked very well. Definitely took the sting and her suspicious feelings out of it. And did improve the relationship.
2.) Belief what Steve Hassan says. She will get out of the cult, its only a matter of how soon and how easily. To that end, consider doing what he recommends in the book and prepare an SIA with her. Do all the necessary prep work and then try and spring her. A hard slog but with the best possible outcome as the potential result. Depending on your finances, it may be worth considering contacting Steve himself. His book doesn't really cover the eventuality you and I are in, ie trying to release people from the bonds that were once ours also. So his personal involvement may be the added ooomph you need.
All the best in whatever you decide.
Keep us posted!

I have three sons who are faithful, one has been disfellowshipped for 2 years and is soon to be reinstated. I agreed with it then and I agree with it now. My wife agreed wth it then and does not agree with it now. What has changed? Jehovah didn't neither did I or my sons. even the one who was disfellowshipped understands why and agrees with it. She has jumped overboard and let go of the life preserver, the only thing is the one she thought she was going to rescue is already back on board. I hope you can find some way to be rescued too
Dear Sad Micheal,
I can only assume from your comments that when (or if) the WTS finally realise just how counter-productive and unChristian the idea of shunning is, then you will still be doing it it. You know, since you've come to this decision yourself and since Jehovah hasn't changed.
Btw, could you please show me proof of Jesus shunning? From everything I know of the Bible, he actually went out of his way to associate with "sinners" who JWs today would shun.

Oh My!! Another Kingdom Hall Will Soon Bite The Dust.
by bronzefist inso, they just finished an over-priced un-needed remodel at one kh in "beer town" wi.
ordered by the building committee said the elder "formerly known as" the po (coboe now).
low and behold unknown to 99% of the rank and file the kh which also contains the living quarters of the co is on the selling market.

They used to stay with the brothers when I was a kid in the 70's.
They still do that in Ireland. And the r&f have to pay for his car and travel expenses between the various congs.
Some COs were lovely and very appreciative of the efforts put in on their behalf. Others were ignorant with a real sense of entitlement and inflated ego.

JW's are a small club....JWD types...we are VERY small club......
by oompa inthat worldwide brotherhood thingy is real for the most part......i have traveled all over and it came in handy many a time.
i liked how there was an instant bond with someone you just met, and you had so much in common.
one time on a long vacation......at a very exclusive tropical place......a couple gave us their resort home for several days while they were out of town....i had just met them at the kh that morning..... anyhoo.....the thing is....i have had the same experience with those i have met from jwd......talk about an even smaller club!......but there is an instant bond, and fast friendship.....two couples in particular i had over for dinner once.....we had talked on phone and here too, but it was like being with old friends........oompa.

I agree Oompa.
I've made and met several friends thru this board. Hopefully I'll travel further a field and meet more in time.

Wow, Isaac. You must be a far more patient person than I am!
I hope that the time and effort you are spending sending out these emails and individually replying to them reaps some rewards.
Thumbs up to you!

Hi and welcome!
Sounds like you are pretty switched on but it's still a good idea to thread very carefully. Remember that they've had decades to fine-tune their techniques and do seem to have the answer to everything.

Former Witness Friend Tries to " Encourage " Me Back to Meetings
by flipper inso it seemed simple enough.
i had heard about this former witness friend of mine ( late 1980's to early 1990's ) having gone through a divorce from his pioneer wife 2 years ago.
long story short- he had been an elder , wife had the jc elders wrapped around her finger - finally the evidence came out she committed adultery and she was dfed.

So sad and yet so familiar. ...
Different JW but same excuses so the conversation almost always goes the same direction.
At least you tried Flipper!
